Author Visit - The PTO is providing a cultural arts assembly for our students on Wednesday, February 14th. John Madormo, author of children's mystery books, will join us for a K-2, and 3-5 presentation where he discusses his journey to becoming an author. If you are interested in purchasing a signed copy of one or more of his books click here for the order form that came home last week in backpacks.
Paw Market Donations Needed - Our Paw Market is an event that happens twice per year (December and May) and is an opportunity for our students to "spend" their hard earned Paw Prints. Paw Prints are earned through making good choices and following the Cougar Code (Being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and a Buddy). The Paw Market is very expensive to stock and is paid through PTO funds and donations. If you work for a company that donates, or have new items at home, such as toys, stuffed animals, trinkets, soaps/lotions, jewelry, candles, etc. please consider a donation to our Paw Market. The students love this event and we want to make sure it is able to continue for years to come. Click here to view pictures from our most recent Paw Market in December.
Go Zen - is a wonderful and informative online resource for parents and children. It mainly focuses on anxiety in children, although there is also information regarding behavioral suggestions and parenting tips. Go Zen provides free online trainings and webinars for parents. Although you do have to pay for access to the curriculum, there are several free resources available through the website as well as weekly newsletters. They also have a Facebook page that can be followed to gain access to helpful information. Click here to access this helpful site.
Family Media Plan - Are you concerned that your child is not spending as much face-to-face time at home and is instead in front of a device or television for too long? If so, you may want to create a Family Media Plan that would balance the quality time a child interacts with those at home verses their media usage. Click here for more information.
Crossing Guard Needed - The Des Plaines Police Department is looking to hire a crossing guard by South Elementary School. For more information about this position click here.
