Welcome Back - We had a wonderful start to the 2018-2019 school year. On the first day, all of our students enjoyed learning about the PBIS (Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports) school-wide behavioral expectations. Again this year, our children watched videos of our staff demonstrating the proper way we walk in the halls, are safe in the bathrooms and on the playground, how to maintain lunchroom routines, etc. See pictures from the first day on the Cumberland Facebook page.
New 3rd-5th Grade Grading System - This school year, District 62 will update its grading system for students in third through fifth grade. Grades will now be reported as EX (exceeds), ME (meets), AP (approaching), and BL (below). These will replace the former letter grade representation of A, B, C, D, and U. This system is already being used in kindergarten through second grade. With this update, the grading system for kindergarten through fifth grade will now be in alignment.
Summer Reading/Math Challenge Due Next Friday - Each of our returning students in grades K-5 came home last year with 2 books on the last day of school. These books were provided through Title I funds and address common core skills at their current grade level in both reading and math. Students who completed at least 75% of each book, and turn them into their teacher by next Friday, August 31, will receive a completion certificate and neck medal for each book. They will also receive an additional extra recess with their teacher for their effort.
Online Lunch Deposits Now Available - You now have the ability to place money directly into your child's online lunch account. For step-by-step directions click English, Spanish, or Polish.

Email Us – To contact any member of the Cumberland staff by email, just type in the last name of the individual and their first initial, and follow that with @d62.org. For example, if you would like to email Connie Harford in the main office, her address is [email protected]. There are a few exceptions to this rule so click here for a full list of email addresses for our staff.
Box Tops - Please continue to collect Box Tops for Education. Our PTO has earned between $700-$1,000 per year from these tiny coupons that really do add up. We have a classroom collection container hanging in the main office. Classes with the highest ratio of Box Tops will receive a special incentive from the PTO each trimester.
