D62 Equity Audit - As part of the Strategic Plan, all schools in District 62 will be taking part in an Equity Audit. Representatives from the Consortium For Educational Change (CEC) will be at Cumberland to interview our students, parents, and staff. Each classroom teacher will randomly select one student to take part from their class (a note will be sent home with the selected students). The audit will take place at Cumberland on Thursday, January 30th. There are 15 slots for parent participation between 9:00 - 9:30 that day. If you would like to take part in this discussion and give your opinion about the school and district, please email Mrs. White at [email protected].
Girls On The Run - We are very excited to introduce a new after school program called Girls On The Run. This experience is for girls in 3rd - 5th grade and will take place from 3:30-4:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from February 27th - May 28th. Students must be able to participate both days to enroll. There are 15 slots available and registration must be completed online by January 31, 2020. Please note that registration does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Click here for more information about this program.
5Essentials Student Survey - Our 4th and 5th graders will once again participate in the student version of the Illinois 5Essentials survey. This is a good way for us to gain knowledge about the experiences our students are having in school. Click here to view the details. Cumberland students will be taking the survey on Tuesday, January 7th.
Elks Hoop Shoot- Cumberland 4th grader Mason Flack did a phenomenal job at the annual Des Plaines Elks Hoop Shoot free throw competition at Chippewa on December 7th. Mason was the top scorer of the day, making 15 of 25 free throws (including 6 in a row), earning first place for his age division. He then qualified for the District Shoot held on December 8th in Wheaton and, after taking first place there as well, and will now compete at the state level in Decatur in early 2020. Way to go Mason, good luck down state, we are so proud of you!
Cougar Chorus Gives Back - We are so proud of our Cougar Chorus and Mr. Coon for giving back to the community. This Wednesday, they visited residents at the Summit of Uptown Retirement Community in Park Ridge. The group sang holiday songs for the patrons and helped decorate their tree. We appreciate our students and Mr. Coon taking the time to meaningfully give back, especially around the holidays when many of these individuals are lonely and do not have a family to visit them. Great job everyone!!!
Winter Reminders - Students will be waiting outside in line before school, and going outside during lunch recess, if the temperature is above 10 degrees (including wind chill). We do not allow children to play in the snow or on the snow mounds at recess unless they are wearing snow pants and boots. This prevents them from sitting in wet clothing during their afternoon instruction.
