Last Day of School - The last day for student attendance this year will be Thursday, May 31st and dismissal will be at 3:15 p.m. (11:30 for morning general education kindergarten).
Rivers Casino Grant - Cumberland School received our third grant from Rivers Casino, this time for $27,478. Part of the funds will go to create a Makerspace room including technology and furniture, and the other portion will fund indoor and outdoor recess equipment for our "Play For All" program. Thank you Rivers for your continued support of our school over the years, we appreciate it so much!!!
Staff Leaving - We would like to send a heartfelt goodbye to the following staff members who will be leaving Cumberland at the end of this year. All of these individuals have put their heart and soul into helping children succeed. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors; they will truly be missed!!!

Parents of 5th Graders - You are cordially invited to attend a short assembly that our 5th graders will be presenting on Thursday, May 31st at 2:30. The theme will be "Cumberland Memories." Immediately following, at approximately 3:00, we will have our traditional "5th Grade Clap Out Ceremony" where our entire school will say goodbye to the 5th graders with applause and well wishes through the halls.

Recognition For No Behavior Referrals - Students will be bringing home their last report card next Thursday, May 31st. As a reminder, any child who has not received a behavior referral for the entire third trimester will receive a recognition letter as well as a "You're PAWsome" key chain in their report card envelope. We are so proud of our students who consistently make good choices and follow the Cougar Code. We hope your child is among those receiving the letter and key chain for their hard work. Next year, we will continue to send home a letter for qualifying students, however, we will discontinue the key chains due to the cost.
Parent Information Night & Supply Drop-Off - Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 16th for the Parent Information Night & School Supply Drop-Off. The event will take place from 4:00-6:00 p.m., click here for complete information.
Box Tops Winners- Congratulations to Mr. Newell's class for winning the 3rd trimester Box Tops For Education Challenge. The eight students in his classroom collected 136 Box Tops and as a result will be enjoying a special activity with their teacher. We would also like to recognize Mr. McKelvey's class for coming in 2nd place. Keep collecting those Box Tops over the summer!

Taste of Des Plaines Volunteers Needed - The city is seeking volunteers to help with the Taste of Des Plaines event on Friday, June 15th and Saturday, June 16th. For each hour of volunteer service given from a specific school, the PTO will receive $5.00. Click here to view the event flyer.
Save your markers - Over the summer please save your empty/used Crayola colored markers. The PTO will be collecting and recycling them this fall. If you are not returning to Cumberland next year, please put them in a plastic bag and bring them to the front office marked PTO. Thank you!
