Meet the Chippewa Principal - John Swanson, principal at Chippewa Middle School, will be attending our next PTO meeting on Monday, May 13th at 6:00 p.m. in the LMC. He will spend time discussing the middle school programs and answering any questions our parents may have.
Kindergarten Orientation - If you have a child that will be attending kindergarten at Cumberland next year, please join us for Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday, May 15th. If your child will be in a general education or BEST class, the time will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the MPR. If your child will be in an Educational Life Skills (ELS) class, the time will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Tile 1. This event provides an opportunity for you to meet your child's upcoming teacher and learn about our school and programs. We hope to see you there!
Parking Lot Caution - Due to the construction in the circle, many cars are cutting through the Cumberland/Chippewa parking lot to avoid the road closures. This is especially bad during the morning and evening rush hour. Many of these cars are going very fast and we have created several unsafe situations with students and their parents dropping off and picking up from SPARK and after school activities. The Des Plaines Police Department has been made aware of the situation and will try to have an increased presence during those times. Our maintenance department has placed speed bumps in the lot in an attempt to slow down the cars coming through. Please be careful when dropping off and picking up your children and do not to let them wander in front of you through the parking lot.
D62 online Registration - If you have not already done so, please register your child for the 2019/20 school year using the online registration program. Any new students, or students entering kindergarten, will use the existing paper registration process. Click here for more information and FAQs. If you would like to pay school fees by credit card before the online system allows, call Connie or Gloria in the main office at 847-824-1451.
Movie Night - Join us tonight, Friday, May 3rd, for the final PTO Movie Night of the year. The feature movie will be "Ralph Breaks the Internet" starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Gym. Snacks and drinks will be for sale.
Staff Teacher Appreciation Week is next week (May 6th-10th). The PTO will be providing lunch and other surprises for the Cumberland staff. Please take time to say "Thank you" to your child's teacher and other staff for all the great support they have given the students this year!
Online Silent Auction - The PTO presents its very first online silent auction. Parents, family, and friends can bid on various items and gift certificates to local businesses. Bidding will begin at 8:00 a.m. on May 10th and end at 10:00 p.m. on May 17th. If you win any items, you will be prompted at the close of the auction to pay by credit card, and you can coordinate with a PTO board member for item pickup. Preview the items by clicking here, and come back when the auction goes live to bid! All of the items were donated by the businesses, so your entire donation goes towards Cumberland.
PTO Meeting - The final PTO meeting of the year will be held on Monday, May 13th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the LMC. Elections will be held for next year's board positions. We would love for you to be involved, so please come join us. Free childcare will be provided. Any amount of time commitment is appreciated; you don't have to come to every meeting or event to be involved next year!
Help the PTO Through Amazon - Do you shop on Amazon? If so, you could help our PTO by making your purchases through smile.amazon.com. The site is identical to the Amazon you are used to using. By selecting Cumberland, 0.5% of your purchase will go back to the school PTO.
