Book Fair Volunteers Needed - The Scholastic Book Fair will take place on April 23rd - 26th and the PTO is asking for volunteers to help with this event. Click here to access the sign-up if you are available to help with this event.
Schedule Changes for Students - If you are picking your child up early from school, or have an alternate schedule at the end of the day, please call the office as well as email your child's teacher. This will be a double protection to ensure that the message gets to the child in a timely manner.
Chicago Bears Mini Monsters Clinic - Cumberland 4th and 5th graders have been chosen to participate in the Chicago Bears Mini Monster Clinic. This 90 minute indoor gym activity, sponsored by Advocate Health Care, teaches the importance of healthy eating, physical activity, and proper hydration. Students will also participate in non-contact football drills with a former Chicago Bears football player. The PTO needs 10 parent/grandparent volunteers to help support the event on Monday, May 13th from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Click here to volunteer and look for the permission slips to be coming home soon with your child.
After School Playground Use - Only students who are being directly supervised by a parent are allowed to use the playground equipment after school. Children are expected to wait by the fence with Ms. Mazzone if being picked up by a car. Walkers are supposed to meet up with their walking partner and leave the grounds immediately. Students who have a parent waiting on the playground need to meet up first, and then if a parent is directly supervising, they can play on the equipment. Please review this expectation with your child.
D62 online Registration - So far, 31% of D62 parents have registered their child using online registration for next school year. Any new students or students entering kindergarten will use the existing paper registration process. Click here for more information and FAQs. If you would like to pay school fees by credit card before the online system allows, call Connie or Gloria in the main office at 847-824-1451.
April PTO Meeting - We hope you can join us for the upcoming PTO meeting on Monday, April 8th at 6:00 p.m. in the LMC. We will be voting on current board member positions, planning spring school events, and discussing plans for next school year. There are two openings on the PTO board for anyone who is interested in volunteering their time. Childcare is provided to parents who attend the one hour meeting. We encourage you to attend one of the last PTO meetings of this school year and be a part of the planning process.
Digital Media Author Visit - D62 is excited to welcome author Dr. Devorah Heitner, a researcher and author of Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World. Many parents today are concerned about too much screen time and how their children are using their devices. Dr. Heitner will discuss the benefits technology offers children and will suggest ways to guide them through today’s digital age. This presentation for parents will be at Chippewa Middle School on Wednesday, April 17th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Moving? Let Us Know - Parents, if you are planning to move out of the Cumberland attendance area, and will not be attending our school next year, please call the school office at 847-824-1451. This will allow us time to get the student information and health folders ready to send to the receiving school.
Lawlor Book Opportunity - Our students were able to meet author Laurie Lawlor during her school-wide visit on February 26th, and she is in the process of conducting writing workshops with our 3rd - 5th graders. If you would like to purchase an autographed book from Laurie, click here to access the order form.
