Bus Delays - Some of our buses have been experiencing delays this week due to the construction at the traffic circle. First Student bus company has been notified and they are trying to adjust routes, but expect the delays to continue through the construction period.
Summer Reading/Math Challenge Due Next Friday - Each of our students in grades K-5 were given two books on either the last day of school or at Kindergarten Orientation. These books were provided through Title I funds and address common core skills at their current grade level in both reading and math. Students who complete at least 75% of each book, and turn them into their teacher by next Friday, August 30th, will receive a completion certificate and neck medal for each subject. They will also receive an additional extra recess with Ms. Duggan our P.E. teacher for their effort.

There is a classroom collection container hanging in the main office. Classes with the highest ratio of Box Tops will receive a special incentive from the PTO each trimester. 62 Ignite Innovation - A new program is launching this year titled 62 Ignite Innovation. Many classrooms throughout District 62 will participate in Phase 1 of this initiative, including the 1st grade, 5th grade, and BEST classrooms at Cumberland. The vision of this program is to provide all learners across the district a 1:1 tool to increase engagement, promote student voice and choice, and ignite creativity in school, at home, and beyond. Students will still have access to shared carts of laptops throughout the school and teachers have received professional development to support the use of iPad devices in their classroom. For more information on this program, including a video highlighting instruction with iPad devices and Board of Education memos on this program please visit the 62 Ignite Innovation Website.
